mada wines 2019 shiraz.

Tell us about this wine

It’s my expression of Murrumbateman shiraz. Perfumed, vibrant, spicy but with a nice density and weight to support it all.

Where did the grapes come from and why did you choose them?

They’re grown by two amazing and talented people – Will Bruce and Neil McGregor, from two amazing sites at each end of Murrumbateman. With each different site comes the unique characteristics of the wine. Both these guys have a passion for looking after the environment, the soil and curating a healthy ecosystem in their production and this really aligns with my own values.

What was different about this harvest?

The dry winter and dry spring made for some tricker growing conditions. Both sites are irrigated and thankfully summer wasn’t as hot as projected. Otherwise, nothing from my end. The fruit was perfect and great to work with.

How do you like to slow down?

With my family, just chilling. I love a weekend at the coast and we’ve recently taken to climbing the mountains around us here in Canberra too. It’s so important towards us growing together and really fun. For me personally, I love to get on a bike. I call it exercise but for me to get out and move is my time out.

If you could choose one person to have a glass of this wine with, who would it be and why?

My dad. He loves a glass of red.
